The main reason for this conversion is that a big lobby of private coaching institutes which charges students over Rs 2.5 lakh to coach students for JEE (Main) which is based on CBSE syllabus but if the state conducts its own CET, based on state board syllabus,it will help the students from rural areas and also to people who are not able to afford the fees of coaching centres.
The Minister for higher and technical education Vinod Tawde said that the government will continue to give 50% weightage to class 12th scores and 50% to CET scores instead of the JEE (Main). Officials even said that if the state goes back to CET, it should have a common MHT-CET i.e there will be common entrance test for both engineering and medical so that students will not have to take the physics and chemistry tests twice.
